After recording two shutouts and helping Cal State San Bernardino post a flawless week, goalkeeper Carly Luna has been selected as the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 12-18.

Luna and the Yotes opened the week with a 1-0 win at Azusa Pacific. The senior from San Pedro made four stops in the contest, including three in the first half, allowing CSUSB to put the first goal on the board.

On Saturday, in a non-conference contest against Cal State San Marcos, Luna faced 16 shots and did not allow a goal. She made five saves, including two early in the second half, to preserve the shutout.

The Yotes have won four of their last five matches, outsourcing their opponents 16-5 in that five-game stretch.

Luna is tied for second in the CCAA and 25th in NCAA Division II with three shutouts on the season. She is averaging 3.83 saves per match.

She is the first Yote ever to earn CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. The last CCAA weekly winner for CSUSB was Vidalia Abarca for the week of Sept. 6-12, 2021.

Luna and the Yotes will open CCAA play this week by hosting a pair of contests. Stanislaus State will come to town for the home-opener on Friday, Sept. 23 before they welcome in Cal State East Bay on Sunday, Sept. 25.
