Stan State libero Gabby Rawson digs up Defensive Player of the Week award

Stanislaus State’s Gabby Rawson has been selected as the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 12-18.

Rawson, a junior libero, posted 39 digs for 4.88 digs per set to lead the Warriors’ defensive efforts as Stan State swept a pair of home matches against San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay. 

The Rancho Cucamonga product had 13 digs and 9 assists in the Warriors’ win over SF State on Friday. Rawson then added a career-best 26 digs in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over CSUMB. She also added 15 assists and two service aces as Stanislaus State improved to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in CCAA play.

Rawson, who leads the CCAA with 4.67 digs per set, is part of the squad that has limited its opponents to a CCAA-low .128 hitting percentage.

Stanislaus State will enjoy three more home matches this week, starting with a non-conference tilt Tuesday evening against Holy Names. The Warriors host Cal State San Marcos and Cal State East Bay this weekend.
