CSUMB’s Jaime Gonzalez wins preview meet to earn Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor

Cal State Monterey Bay’s Jaime Gonzalez, who was victorious at the Otter Invitational, has been named the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, for the week of Sept. 12-18.

Gonzalez raced to the finish line first in a time of 25:44.9 in the 8K race at the newly developed Palo Corona Cross Country Trail in Carmel. The event also served as a CCAA championship preview. It was the first collegiate competition held at the new course.

Behind Gonzalez’s lead, the CSUMB men tied with San Francisco State for first, each with 34 points in the team standings. SF State won the team title by having the faster sixth place finisher.

Gonzalez, a sophomore from Somis, posted his PR time to edge Logan McNamar by 1.6 seconds.

The Palo Corona Cross Country Trail will serve as the site of the 2022 CCAA Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championships on Nov. 5.

CSUMB will take next weekend off before heading down the coast to take part in the Waves Invitational at Pepperdine in Malibu on Oct. 1
