Samantha Campion of Cal Poly Pomona has earned the honor as this week’s CCAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 5-11.
Campion and the Broncos began CCAA play with a pair of 3-1 wins on the road last weekend. The sophomore outside hitter tallied 37 digs, which equals 4.63 digs per set, with three assisted blocks to lead the Cal Poly Pomona defense.
Campion’s conference-debut was a double-double in Friday’s CPP win at Cal State Monterey Bay. The Aurora, Colo., product posted 15 kills with 25 digs, which was the second most posted in a match by a CCAA student-athlete this season. Campion, who transferred from College of Charleston followed with another double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs at San Francisco State on Saturday.
Cal Poly Pomona, which has won seven straight matches to improve to 7-1, will play three home matches this weekend. The Broncos host Azusa Pacific this evening before a pair of conference matches this weekend.
