Cal State LA's Areli Reyes snares CCAA Defensive Player of the Week Aug 30, 2022 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal State LA’s Areli Reyes shined in her one match of the week as the goalkeeper was honored with the conference’s first-ever CCAA Defensive Player of the Week award. (Aug. 22-28) Reyes helped the Golden Eagles shutout Cal Poly Pomona, 1-0, in the season opener. The sophomore made three critical saves, including a pair of acrobatic stops in the final 20 minutes, to preserve the win over the No. 2 team in the CCAA preseason coaches poll. The San Marcos native was not busy in the first half, but she made two big saves and an aggressive snare of a dangerous corner kick in the latter stages of the second to keep the shutout. Reyes is the first Player of the Week for Cal State LA since Lauren Sanchez on Sept. 23-29, 2019. The next match for Reyes and Cal State LA will be a home contest against Azusa Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 1.
