Cal State East Bay’s Tone Patton’s all-around effort helped the Pioneers to a big upset victory as he’s been named the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
In the team’s only contest of the week, Patton made the opportunity count with season highs of 22 points and 16 rebounds in leading CSUEB to a 79-77 win over No. 9-ranked Cal State San Marcos last Thursday.
The junior forward from Chicago shot 83 percent from the floor, hitting 10 of 12 shots, with two free throws for his 22 points. Of the 16 rebounds, he snagged 10 defensive and six offensive boards. Patton also had two blocked shots.
Patton made one of the key buckets on the night when his jumper with 3:43 left to play gave the Pioneers a 69-67 lead.
Patton was averaging 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds a game before Thursday’s CSUEB career-best.
