Chico State's Malik Duffy selected as Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Malik Duffy led Chico State to two wins to stay within striking distance of a CCAA regular season title and has been named as the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Feb. 14-20.

The senior forward averaged 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.5 steals per game on offense. He also then helped anchor a defense that held Cal State LA 12 points below its season scoring average and Cal State San Marcos 20 points below its season scoring average. 

Duffy needed just nine shots to score a game-high 21 points in an 82-65 win over Cal State LA Thursday night. He was 7-of-9 overall, 4-of-5 from 3-point range, and made all three of his free throws. Duffy also chipped in six rebounds, a pair of steals, and an assist. In a 63-57 win at 14th-ranked Cal State San Marcos on Saturday afternoon, Duffy led all scorers with 23 points and added 8 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. His driving bucket with 1:19 left stretched Chico State's lead to four, and his two free throws with 11 seconds left stretched the lead to six. 

Duffy and the 11th-ranked Wildcats are now 17-3 overall and 13-3 in the CCAA. In conference play, the sixth-year senior ranks second in the CCAA in scoring, seventh in rebounding, second in 3-point field-goal percentage, third in field-goal percentage, fifth in free throw percentage, sixth in threes per game, ninth in blocked shots, and 23rd in assists per game.
