Cal State San Marco’s Breann Horn captured the individual medalist win in the Spring’s first event on Tuesday, earning her the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week award.

Horn shot a 3-over 147 at the Visit Stockton Invitational, edging out two others by a stroke to take the title. The opening tournament was at Stockton’s Brookside Country Club, the site of the NCAA Women’s Super Regional May 1-4.

Horn led the No. 17-ranked Cougars to a third place team finish with CSUSM scoring +38, 614, four back of Texas A&M International and West Texas A&M. There were 19 teams and 104 golfers at the event.

The junior from Lakeside, Calif., took off Monday with a two-over 74 score, which was one of the lows. Horn then scored a 73 in Tuesday’s final round. Only one golfer shot under par the entire tournament (-1 by Lorenza Perini of West Texas A&M).

The win was Horn’s second tournament win of the season and third of her career. She also shared the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week honor on Sept. 29 after tying for first at the RJGA Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz.

CSUSM competes next at The Gold Rush, hosted by Long Beach State Feb. 28-March 1 in Seal Beach.
