For the second consecutive week, and the third time this season, Cal State San Marcos’ Jordan Vasquez has been named the CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Vasquez notched two more double-doubles while leading the Cougars to 13 straight wins to earn the award, for the week of Feb. 7-13.
The sophomore forward from Moreno Valley averaged 15 points and 15 rebounds in CSUSM’s two wins last week as the Cougars improved to 17-2 overall and 15-1 in league play, clinching a CCAA Tournament berth. She shot 50 percent from the floor (13 for 26) with 30 points and 30 rebounds, plus six assists.
Vasquez scored 14 points and pulled a CSUSM career high 16 rebounds Thursday at home versus Cal State San Bernardino. Two nights later she netted 16 points (8 for 13 for 62 percent) and grabbed 14 boards against Cal Poly Pomona.
The transfer from Fort Lewis College earned CCAA Player of the Week and D2CIDA national Player of the Week honors last week after averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds per game. Vasquez was also the CCAA Player of the Week for Nov. 15-21, after scoring 56 points with 26 rebounds in three games.
Vasquez leads the CCAA with a .561 field goal percentage for the season. She’s also top 10 in scoring (7th, 14.2 ppg) and rebounding (4th, 8.8 rpg).
Cal State San Marcos hosts Stanislaus State and Chico State this weekend to conclude its regular season home schedule.
