Cal State East Bay's Perlstein selected as Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Zack Perlstein became the second consecutive Cal State East Bay Pioneer to capture the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award as he earned the nod for the week of Feb. 7-13.

Perlstein averaged 25 points and six rebounds per game to lead the up-start Pioneers to their fourth straight win to remain in the race for a postseason berth. He also added six assists and four steals to his tally.

Perlstein set a career high with 25 points in consecutive games leading CSUEB to road victories at Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt. He was 9 for 14 (64 percent) from the field on Thursday at Sonoma State, including hitting a career-best six 3-pointers. Saturday night at Humboldt, the junior guard from Vacaville put-up another 25 points, this time on 10 of 20 shooting with a pair of treys plus eight rebounds and two blocks.

Last week, CSUEB’s Tone Patton earned the weekly award with season highs of 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Cal State East Bay, now 8-12 overall and 6-8 in CCAA, is just a game behind San Francisco State for sixth place. The Pioneers host SF State and Cal State Monterey Bay this week in their final home stand of the season.
