Cal Poly Pomona’s Donja Payne was a dominant rebounder as she has been picked as the CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4.

Payne averaged 14.0 points and 16.5 rebounds per game in leading the Broncos to two road victories at Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State as CPP improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in CCAA play.

The junior forward from Manteca had eight points and 10 rebounds at CSUMB on Thursday but she made headlines with a record-breaking outing Saturday night at San Francisco State. Against the Gators, Payne netted 20 points with 23 rebounds, for her fourth double-double, in the team’s 62-48 win.

Payne’s 23-rebound tally tied a Cal Poly Pomona program record and is the single best performance in NCAA Division II this season. She was just the third DII player to score 20+ points with 20+ rebounds in a game this season.

Payne leads the CCAA — and is seventh in NCAA Division II — with 11.9 rebounds

Cal Poly Pomona hosts just one CCAA contest this week with Cal State Dominguez Hills visiting on Thursday.
