Cal State San Bernardino’s Marlee Nunley has been named the CCAA Volleyball Setter of the Week for the third time this season, this time for her outstanding performances for the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 6.
Nunley amassed 72 assists to lead the Yotes to two critical wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State as CSUSB secured the No. 2 seed, with a first round bye, in the CCAA Tournament.
Against CSUMB on Friday, Nunley dished 23 assists with five digs. She added three blocks, including a solo, and two kills.
Saturday night, the junior from Murrieta, posted another 40-plus assist match helping the Yotes to a come-from-behind victory over SF State. With the Gators needing a win to get a berth for the tournament and the Yotes fighting for the No. 2 seed and a bye, the epic battle lasted to five-sets with CSUSB winning the final 19-17.
Nunley, who is third in the conference with 8.16 assists per set and 800 assists, also had eight digs, three aces, two blocks and two aces against the Gators.
The CCAA Volleyball Tournament begins on Thursday at Cal State San Marcos. Cal State San Bernardino will face the winner of the Stanislaus State-Cal Poly Pomona quarterfinal match on Friday at 3 p.m.
