Jaylen Wells put in the best week of his career to earn this week’s honor as CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Nov. 21-27.
Wells averaged 25.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in Sonoma State’s three-contest busy week. The sophomore forward put up two of the best individual performances in the CCAA this season with a 30-point and a 28-point game.
In the Seawolves’ CCAA opener at Cal Poly Humboldt last Tuesday, Wells scored a career-high 30 points (11-for-20) with 11 rebounds for his third double-double this season. During SSU’s Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend, Wells chipped in 19 points with seven rebounds against Fresno Pacific on Friday and notched 28 points with 8 rebounds versus Holy Names on Saturday. Wells also had five assists in each home game.
For the three-game week, the standout from Sacramento totaled 77 points, 26 rebounds and 13 assists despite Sonoma State going 1-2. He shot 59 percent from the field (30-for-51) and 50 percent from the 3-point line (6-for-12), plus converting on 11 of 15 free throws.
Wells, who is now second in the CCAA in scoring at 21.1 points per game, had the season’s second best individual performance with the 30-point game. His 28-point outing is tied for fourth best.
Sonoma State plays a pair of CCAA games on the road this week, first at Cal State East Bay on Thursday, then at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
