Cal State LA will return to the regional title match for the second consecutive season after sweeping the No. 7 seed Central Washington 25-20, 25-15, and 29-27. (Nov. 18)
Emily Elliott racked up 14 kills, seven digs, three blocks, and two aces in the three-set match. Iane Henke added 10 kills and 11 digs. Dittmann chipped in with seven kills and 10 digs.
Haley Roundtree helped the Golden Eagles (23-6) dominate at the net. She posted two solo blocks and five assists as Cal State LA had 12 blocks to Central Washington's three. Roundtree was one of five Golden Eagles with at least three blocks.
Cal State LA also had a huge advantage on the serve with nine aces and only seven errors. Dittmann led the way with four. Elliott and Henke added two apiece.
Henke helped get the Golden Eagles going early, with five of her 10 kills coming in the first set. The defense was also working for Cal State LA as the Wildcats hit .026 percentage and were blocked five times.
In the second set, CSLA looked unstoppable. Six student-athletes had kills, and they combined to hit .448 with just one error. The Golden Eagles posted four aces.
Cal State LA overcame many late deficits in the third set to prevail in three. Neither team led by more than three points as Central Washington was fighting for its playoff lives. The Wildcats took leads of 23-20 and 24-22, but they could not close out the resilient Golden Eagles.
Two straight points tied the match at 24-24. Cal State LA continued to exchange points with CWU before taking the lead at 26-25 on a kill by Elliott. She would have two more kills down the stretch, including the match-winner, to make it 29-27. Elliott had the last four kills for Cal State LA.
The Golden Eagles will advance to the championship match against Chaminade on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m.
