Cal State LA’s Lily Buggs turned in two double-double performances to earn this season’s first Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
Buggs scored 42 points with 22 rebounds to average 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game to lead the Golden Eagles to wins over Concordia and Biola at the CCAA/PacWest Crossover in Irvine.
The sophomore guard scored 19 points — on 6 of 13 shooting — and 10 rebounds against host Concordia on Friday. She also had five steals, an assist and a blocked shot. The following night Buggs netted 23 points and pulled 12 rebounds in the win over Biola. The Long Beach standout shot 53 percent from the floor (8 of 15) and made two of four three-point attempts while converting on five of six free throws.
Buggs, the 2021-22 CCAA Freshman of the Year, earned the Player of the Week award last season on Jan. 24, 2022.
Cal State LA will host Azusa Pacific, the preseason favorites in the PacWest, Tuesday at 5 p.m. for its home opener.
