Cal State LA’s Morgan Sjoerdsma has been named the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week after winning the Sonoma State Fall Invitational on Tuesday.

The reigning CCAA individual champion overcame a four-shot deficit in the final round to capture medalist honors at the event at Valley of the Moon Club in Santa Rosa. Sjoerdsma, who finished with a five-over par 149 (76-73) card to win by two strokes, led Cal State LA to a second place finish at the tournament.

Sjoerdsma, a senior from Corona, opened the tournament with a double-bogey on her first hole on Monday and was 5-over-par through her first five holes. However, she was tremendous the rest of the way as she erased a four-shot deficit while shooting the lowest final round on Tuesday. She had started round two in fifth place after an opening round of 76.

This was Sjoerdsma’s second career tournament victory after she captured the conference title last April at the CCAA Championships at Yocha Dehe Golf Club.
