Sonoma State’s Gianna Bomarito raced her way to a new school record to earn the Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award, for the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2.
Bomarito set a new program record with the first sub-21-minute 6,000-meter time in program history when she clocked 20:52.9 at the Lehigh Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Penn. She won the College White Race division of the event, hosted by Lehigh University.
The freshman from Fresno earned her first collegiate victory while shaving off more than 40 seconds from her previous personal best time. She ran a 21:42.6 at the Kim Duyst Invitational on Sept. 10.
Bomarito set a new program record by surpassing Analicia Garcia’s time of 21:02, set in October of 2016. Garcia was the last Seawolve to win this weekly award.
The Seawolves will take a weekend off before returning to competition at the Santa Clara Bronco Invite on October 15.
