Cal Poly Pomona’s Liberty Ortiz captured the CCAA/Pixellot Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award for the week of Oct. 17-23.

The freshman midfielder played all 180 minutes on the weekend, including scoring a goal in the win at Cal State East Bay.

The Broncos and Ortiz opened the week with a 2-0 shutout at Cal State East Bay. The defense held the Warriors scoreless in the first half until the offense broke through with two second-half scores. Ortiz’s goal extended CPP’s lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute and tied her for the team lead with three goals.

Ortiz is the second Bronco to earn CCAA/Pixellot Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. She joins her goalkeeper, Audrey Brown, who earned the honor for the week of Sept. 5-11.

Cal Poly Pomona will try to secure a spot in the CCAA Tournament this week when they host Cal State LA. Currently, the Broncos need a win to clinch a spot. Their match against the Golden Eagles will kickoff on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 11:30 a.m.
