Sonoma State goalkeeper Reinier ter Riet stepped up when his team needed him most, and for his performances, he has been recognized as the CCAA/Pixellot Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

With the Seawolves’ postseason hopes on the line, ter Riet put together two shutouts to lead Sonoma State to a 2-0-0 week and into a position where it controls its own playoff fate during the final match of the season.

The sophomore from Maarssen, Netherlands, recorded an eight-save performance against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday. He made several clutch one-on-one saves early in the game before a second-half goal would put the match out of reach.

On Sunday, ter Riet posted four saves as the Seawolves gutted out a critical 2-0 win over Cal State San Marcos.

ter Riet currently ranks second in the conference with 71 saves, third in saves per game (4.18), and is tied for third with six shutouts. He is the first Seawolves men’s soccer student-athlete to earn a CCAA weekly honor in 2022.

Sonoma State will close out its regular season at home on Thursday, Oct. 27, against San Francisco State. The Seawolves can secure a place in the 2022 CCAA Tournament with a victory.
