With his first tournament win, Simon Björken of Cal State Monterey Bay has earned the honor as the CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Björken shot an 11-under 205 to win medalist honors at the Otter Invitational at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside. His score is a new Otter Invitational record, surpassing the previous low of 208 set in 201. 

Björken led host Cal State Monterey Bay to a tie for second place finish with Sonoma State, behind No. 4-ranked Barry.

The sophomore from Hudiksval, Sweden, followed his 67 opening round with two 69s for his career-best 54-hole score. He finished three strokes ahead of Barry’s Nicolas Quintero and Cal State East Bay’s Ryan Hong, who shot a tournament-low 66 on Monday.

Björken, the reigning CCAA Newcomer of the Year, marked an eagle on the par-5, 517-yard No. 10 hole on Monday. He finished with 17 birdies on his three scorecards.

The No. 33 ranked Otters will visit the Hawaiian Islands next week to play in both the HPU Shootout on Oahu (Oct. 25-26) and the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Hilo (Oct. 28-29).
