CSUSM’s Caroline Wales shoots her way to CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week award

Cal State San Marcos’ Caroline Wales has been named the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week, for the week of Oct. 12-18.
Wales finished tied for first at the Nick Turner Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Tuesday. She shot a 1-over 145 for the two-round event at the Arroyo del Oso Golf Club.

The sophomore from La Quinta led Cal State San Marcos to a second place finish in the team standings. The Cougars finished three strokes behind St. Mary’s (Tex.) at 22-over 598.

In her second tournament as a CSUSM Cougar, Wales took off to the top of the leaderboard after Monday’s play at 2-under. She then carded a 75 on Tuesday for her best collegiate finish. It was her second top 10 finish this fall season.

Wales shared medalist honors before losing a five-hole playoff with Sydney Williams of Arkansa-Fort Smith.

The Cal State San Marcos women’s golf team will join a number of other CCAA programs on the Hawaiian Islands for two tournaments next week. The HPU Sharks Shootout in Oahu is up first on Oct. 25-26, followed by the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Hilo, Hawaii, Oct. 28-29.
