Cal State Monterey Bay’s Colin O’Mahony was voted the CCAA Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 10-16.

The junior defender helped Cal State Monterey Bay post a pair of 1-0 shutouts while assisting on the game-winning goal in both matches. He played all but two minutes in the two matches.

On Friday against Cal State East Bay, O’Mahony set up the game-winning score with a long, far post cross that found the head of Javier Romero, who sent it over to Julian Contreras for the game-winner in the 88th minute.

In the win over Stanislaus State, O’Mahony helped put the Otters up early when he assisted on Romero’s goal in the 16th minute. The Cork, Ireland native then helped keep the Warriors off the scoreboard for the next 74 minutes as the defense allowed just three shots on goal.

It is the second CCAA Defensive Player of the Week award for O’Mahony. He collected his first honor just two weeks ago (Sept. 26-Oct. 2). Click here to see the complete list of CCAA weekly honors.

The wins moved Cal State Monterey Bay into a tie for third in the CCAA standings as they attempt to make the CCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.

The Otters will be on the road this week to face Cal Poly Humboldt (Oct. 21) and Chico State (Oct. 23). They will close out their regular season at home against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 27.
