In just their second meet of the 2022 season, Omar Alvarez-Hernandez led Chico State at the Bronco Invitational, earning him this week’s CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor.

The sophomore from Santa Rosa finished third in the 214-runner field with a personal best time of 23:34.8. He trailed only a club runner Xander Olivero, who won in 23:30.4, and Long Beach State’s Michael Phillips. The Wildcats won the 8K invitational by placing their top five finishers in the top 20.

Alvarez-Hernandez is the second Chico State runner to win this award this season.

The Chico State men's cross country team is back in action next Saturday, taking part in the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Washington.
