Pair of shutouts nets Toros' Alyssa Newsom CCAA/Pixellot Defensive Player of the Week Oct 11, 2022 Share: Complete list of weekly winners >>> Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Alyssa Newsom has been selected as the CCAA/Pixellot Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 3-9. The goalkeeper picked up back-to-back shutouts on the week while making eight saves. Her first came at home against then-first-place Sonoma State, who had been shut out just once all season. Her most crucial save of the weekend came with 2:26 remaining in the match on Sunday against San Francisco State. Facing a penalty kick, with the game on the line, Newsom guessed right and stopped the penalty kick to preserve the scoreless draw. Newsom is the first Toro to earn a CCAA women’s soccer weekly honor since Ruth-Maria Soto in Oct. 2017.
