Cal State San Marcos guard Akayla Hackson has been named CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the shortened-week of Dec. 30-Jan.2.
Returning from the break, the senior from Sunnyvale turned in a double-double to lead the Cougars to a win over Cal State LA on Sunday. She scored 17 points and pulled 10 rebounds with three assists and five steals in the 75-54 win.
Hackson was 7 of 15 shooting from the field and made three of the team’s program-record 13 three-pointers in the game.
Hackson leads the Cougars — and is first among active players in the CCAA — in scoring with 17.2 points per game.
CSU San Marcos is now 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the CCAA, tied for second place.
The Cougars, winners of three straight, will host a pair of conference games this week against Humboldt State (Thursday) and Sonoma State (Saturday).
