Lily Buggs turned in a career game in leading Cal State LA to a win over Cal State San Bernardino as she earned the CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award, for the week of Jan. 17-23.
Buggs, a freshman guard, tied a conference season-high with 34 points and grabbed a personal best 19 rebounds in the Golden Eagles’ 76-65 win over Cal State San Bernardino last Thursday.
Two nights later, she scored 13 points in the team’s loss to Cal Poly Pomona to end up averaging 23.5 points and 12 rebounds per game in two contests for the week.
In the game against the Yotes, the standout from Long Beach shot 14 of 32 for the field (44 percent) for 34 points, the sixth best in the program since 2000-01. She also pulled 19 boards with seven offensive and 12 defensive rebounds to dominate the glass. Buggs also had four steals.
Cal State LA, which snapped a three-game skid and sat out three cancelled games, is now 5-9 overall and 4-5 in CCAA play. The Golden Eagles are home against Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State this weekend.
