Broncos leader Bates named Women's Basketball Player of Week

Ally Bates, who led Cal Poly Pomona to a weekend split on the road, has been named the CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Jan. 10-16.

Bates averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game, including a 23-point, 13-rebound performance as the Broncos went 1-1 in Northern California.

The senior guard from Melbourne, Australia, was 11 of 20 shooting from the field to score 32 points in two contests. She was 5 for 10 from beyond the arc.

After scoring nine points in the team’s loss at Sonoma State on Thursday, Bates responded with a 8 of 13 shooting night (62 percent) at Humboldt State Saturday. Against the Lumberjacks she netted 23 points with 13 rebounds for a double-double, her first as a Bronco. She also had three assists in the game at HSU.

Bates, who spent two seasons at Hawaii Pacific, is the Broncos’ scoring leader at 11.0 points per game.

Cal Poly Pomona, which improved to 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the CCAA after the trip, will begin a stretch of four home games, starting on Thursday against Cal State San Marcos.
