Alexander Sokol, who led Cal State LA to its first conference win, was selected as the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Jan. 3-9.
Sokol poured in a season-high 26 points to go along with a season-high 12 rebounds in the Golden Eagles’ 88-82 win over Sonoma State Thursday night.
Sokol was an efficient 9-for-16 from the floor and was 6 for 12 from the three-point arch. He also had two assists and three steals in the game. Sokol’s three-pointer with 2:35 left to play gave Cal State LA the lead for good.
The junior guard from San Jose is one of three Golden Eagles to average 12 points or better this season. Sokol now averages 12.8 points per game. He leads LA with 38 three-pointers, which is second-most in the CCAA.
Cal State LA’s next scheduled contest at Stanislaus State was canceled so the Golden Eagles will play at Chico State on Saturday.
