For the second consecutive week, Cal State San Marcos’s Akayla Hackson has been named CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, this time for games played between Jan. 3-9.

In her encore performance, the senior from Sunnyvale netted 25 points with six rebounds in the Cougars’ 69-55 win over Sonoma State on Saturday.

Hackson shot 50 percent from the field (8 of 16) and dished three assists with three steals in the game. She made 7 of 9 free throw attempts, putting her just five away from setting a new CSUSM career record.

The 5-foot-8 guard was last week’s player of the week with a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds) outing against Cal State LA.

Hackson increased her scoring average to 18.0 points per game, which tops the CCAA leaderboard among active players (Stan State’s Kyanna Davis averaged 20.1 ppg before a season-ending injury). She’s also third in the conference in field goal percentage (.500) and 3-point field goal percentage (.390).

CSU San Marcos is now 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the CCAA, for second place.

The Cougars, winners of four straight, travels to Chico to take on Chico State on Thursday night.

Lily Buggs, Cal State LA
Destiny Jackson, Cal State San bernardino
