With two goals and two assists in two matches, Sonoma State’s Molly Murphy was selected as the CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5.
The junior midfielder opened the season last Thursday with a goal and two assists in the Seawolves’ 4-0 win over preseason No. 22 Fresno Pacific. Murphy, who is from Pleasanton, also scored a goal in Sonoma State’s 4-0 victory against Dominican on Sunday.
Against Fresno Pacific, Murphy assisted on SSU’s first goal in the 33rd minute to open up the scoring. By the time she assisted on another goal early in the second half, Sonoma had taken a 3-0 lead. Murphy capped off the day by scoring the match’s fourth goal in the 55th minute.
In the match against Dominican, Murphy’s goal came in the 63rd minute which gave SSU a 2-0 lead.
Sonoma State will travel north with two matches against GNAC opponents this week. The Seawolves take on Western Oregon in Monmouth, Ore., on Friday prior to a Sunday match at Western Washington in Bellingham, Wash.
