HSU's Silveira Named Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Marco Silveira, who accounted for four of Humboldt State’s six goals over the weekend, has been named the CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5.

In two matches, the senior forward from Petaluma scored twice and assisted on two goals as the Lumberjacks began the season, on the road, with two victories.

Silveira played major roles in both of HSU matches in Salt Lake City, Utah. First, he scored the eventual game-winner in the 65th minute against Westminster last Thursday after assisting on a score in the 2-0 win. Then, in the 4-0 win over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, he assisted on the first goal in the 12th minute and later netted a score himself in the 55th minute.

Silveira is Humboldt State’s first CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week since 2007.

Humboldt State will return on the road this week as the Lumberjacks travel to Hayward to face Hawaii Pacific on Friday and Holy Names on Sunday at Pioneer Stadium.
