Pacing a strong field of runners, Stanislaus State’s Kaela Dishion won the Cougar Challenge on Saturday, earning her the CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor, for the week of Sept. 20-26.

Dishion set a course record at the event, doubling as the preview meet of the CCAA Championships next month, with her personal best time of 20:57.3. She was the only runner to run under 21 minutes.

The junior from Angels Camp led the No. 6-ranked Warriors to a second place team finish in a tightly contested meet. Chico State (60) won the team title by two points over Stan State (62) and host Cal State San Marcos was third with 71 points.

Three Stan State Warriors finished in the top-nine in the 6,000-meter race on the campus of CSU San Marcos on Saturday.

Dishion is the second Warrior to nab the Runner of the Week award. Sabrina Garcia, who was sixth on Saturday, was the recipient in week one (Aug. 30-Sept. 5).

Stanislaus State next races at the Santa Clara Invitational on Oct. 16, a week before returning to San Marcos for the CCAA Championships.
