Sonoma State’s Lexi Nielsen finished second at the Birdie Fest to garner the award as the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week, for the week of Sept. 15-21.

Nielsen and her Seawolf teammates were playing in their first event of the 2021-22 season. The Birdie Fest was hosted by Dominican at the Peacock Gap Golf Club in San Rafael.

As a team SSU finished second, two strokes behind Academy of Art.

Nielsen, a senior from Manhattan Beach, carded a three-under 139 for the tournament, three shots back of medalist Anahi Servin of Art U.

After an opening round where she had six birdies to shoot a 67, Nielsen was one-over 72 on Tuesday. Only Servin had a better low-round score — a 63 on Monday.

Chico State, which finished sixth, was the only other CCAA team to compete in the tournament.

Sonoma State will travel to Goodyear, Ariz., on Sept. 27-28, for the RJGA Shootout at Estrella, hosted by Western New Mexico. The Seawolves will be joined by CCAA teams Cal State East Bay, Cal State San Marcos, Chico State and Cal State LA.
