Broncos senior Faria nets Men's Soccer Player of the Week Award

Eduardo Faria played a key role in Cal Poly Pomona’s upset win over Azusa Pacific earning him the honor as the CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

Faria scored a goal with an assist in the Broncos’ 3-2 shocker over fifth ranked APU Cougars last Wednesday. Azusa Pacific had not allowed a goal and was undefeated at 2-0-1 prior to the match in Azusa.

The senior midfielder from Porto Alegre, Brazil led the Broncos second half rally. Faria tied the match in the 60th minute. In the 81st minute, Faria found Max Laguna for the eventual game-winner.

The upset victory was CPP’s fourth win in 15 tries against a team ranked in the top five nationally. The last time Cal Poly Pomona beat a top five team prior to Wednesday was Nov. 10, 2018, a win over No. 4 Simon Fraser during the NCAA Tournament.

Cal Poly Pomona hosts Cal State LA next Saturday in a non-conference match.
