Rosa Granados was the winner of Humboldt State’s season-opening event, earning the Lumberjack the CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award, for the week of Sept. 13-19.

Granados captured the title at the Jim Hunt Invitational at Baywood Golf and Country Club in Arcata on Saturday in a time of 23:14.99. It was the Lumberjacks’ first race of the season and Granado’s first cross country run since November, 2019.

The junior from Arroyo Grande led Humboldt State to second place finish in the team standings, behind Southern Oregon, 35-49.

Running in the rain and on shoggy grounds, Granados finished five seconds ahead of second place finisher Faith Wideman of Oregon Tech.

Humboldt State will return to the course on Sept. 24 in Monmouth, Ore., at the Mike Johnson Classic at the Ash Creek Preserve, the site of the 2021 NCAA Championships.
