Running against a strong field, Cal State LA’s Moises Marquez continued his strong start to earn the CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award, for the week of Sept. 13-19.
Marquez was the top CCAA finisher in consecutive events entered by the Golden Eagles as he finished 26th in the 8K Invitational division at the UC Riverside Invite on Saturday. The senior from Lakewood clocked in at 24:38.6 at the UCR Agg Course. The time was nearly 50 seconds faster than his time on the same course in 2019.
This was also the third straight week that Marquez has led Cal State LA.
The winning time on Saturday at UCR was 23:07.8 turned in by Fresno Pacific freshman Patrick Kiprop.
Marquez is the first Golden Eagle to earn the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award since October of 2017.
Cal State LA takes part in the Cougar Challenge next Saturday in San Marcos, on the same course as the 2021 CCAA Cross Country Championships.
