Medalist Moss of CSUSM is Men's Golfer of the Week

With a career-best finish at the season-opening tournament in Santa Rosa, Cal State San Marco’s Matthew Moss has captured the first CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week award.

Moss shot an impressive 7-under par 203 to easily win individual medalist honors at Sonoma State’s Fall Invite on Tuesday. He led the CSUSM Cougars to a team victory as well, defeating host SSU by nine strokes.

The senior from San Diego led from start to finish, opening with a 68 round one score before an afternoon tally of 69 at the par-70 Valley of the Moon Golf Club. Moss completed the tournament on Tuesday with a tournament low 66 as the only player to shoot three sub-70 rounds.

Moss won by four strokes ahead of Chico State’s Christopher Colla and Sonoma State’s Griffin Pace.

Prior to this week, Moss had never finished better than fifth in any collegiate tournament.

The Cougars will compete again on Oct. 11-12 in Valencia, at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge.
