Cal State San Marcos’ Diana Delgado was the top CCAA player at the PLNU Invitational as she earned the honor as the conference’s Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Delgado made a splashing collegiate debut with a three-over par 147 result while leading No. 21 CSUSM to a team win at the tournament hosted by Point Loma on Monday and Tuesday.
The freshman from West Covina carded 74-73 scores to finish just one-back of Biola’s Brady Turnquist with the difference being Turnquist shot one-under on Tuesday and Delgado was one-over.
With two other Cougars in the top seven in the standings, Delgado and her teammates also celebrated a team victory. CSUSM (+21, 597) was nine strokes better than host Point Loma. Four other CCAA teams also competed in this tournament, with the next best, Cal State LA, in fifth at +56.
This marks the fourth consecutive golfer of the week award for Cal State San Marcos dating back to the 2019-20 season, when Jaime Jacob won seven times including the final three.
CSUSM will travel to Goodyear, Ariz., on Sept. 27-28, for the RJGA Shootout at Estrella.
