San Francisco State midfielder Gustavo Ferrari, who scored twice and assisted on a goal, has been named CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 6-12.
Ferrari was part of all three of SF State’s goals in the Gators’ 3-0 shutout win over Academy of Art on Thursday.
Less than 30 seconds into the match, Ferrari played a through ball that led to a Denis Vezina score for the eventual game-winner. In the eighth minute, the junior from Alberta, Canada scored his second goal of the season with a nice spin move around his defender and beat the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. He capped off the tremendous day with a free kick as he bent his shot around a wall of players to make it 3-0.
Ferrari now ranks third in Division II with eight points and is No. 11 with three goals and 14th with two assists.
This is SF State's first men's soccer player of the week awardee since 2007.
The Gators will cross the Bay to Hayward to take on Cal State East Bay on Thursday for their next contest.
