Karla Santos, who led Cal State LA to a perfect 4-0 record at the Nanook Classic, has been named CCAA Volleyball Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 6-12.
The senior outside hitter from Puerto Rico was named the tournament’s most valuable player after smashing 55 kills with 48 digs in four matches. Santos recorded 19 kills and 19 digs in the tournament’s final match as the Golden Eagles beat previously unbeaten Colorado State-Pueblo in four sets.
Cal State LA recorded wins over host Alaska Fairbanks, Alaska Anchorage, Drury and Colorado State-Pueblo. Alaska Anchorage, CSU Pueblo and LA all received votes in last week’s AVCA Top 25 poll.
Santos posted double-doubles in kills and digs in three of the four matches. She had 16 kills and 12 digs against Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday before spiking 13 kills with 10 digs in Friday’s win over Alaska Anchorage. After a 7-kill, 7-dig performance versus Drury Saturday morning, Santos closed-out the weekend with the 19-19 match against CSU-Pueblo.
This is Santos’ fifth time being named CCAA player of the week since 2017, when she earned the CCAA Freshman of the Year honor. Santos is a three-time All-CCAA selection.
The Golden Eagles open conference play Friday afternoon at home versus Humboldt State and host Sonoma State on Saturday.
