AVCA release
Cal State San Bernardino's Alexis Cardoza repeats as the AVCA Division II National Player of the Year for the 2021 season.
The senior outside hitter closed out her outstanding collegiate career by ranking in the top 25 in the nation in both points per set and kills per set. Cardoza averaged 3.97 kills, 2.77 digs, and 4.46 points per set this season. She posted double-figure kills in 27 of 30 matches, and she registered 14 double-doubles.
The Chino Hills native was the go-to player for a Cal State San Bernardino team that climbed as high as No. 2 in the national rankings. Cardoza headlined an offense that ranked ninth nationally in hitting percentage and the top 20 in kills per set. The Yotes started the year at 3-3, against some of the nation's top teams, before rattling off 23 consecutive wins. Cardoza helped CSUSB win the CCAA regular-season championship and the program's fifth straight CCAA Tournament title.
This is the second-straight time Cardoza has been named AVCA Player of the Year, as she earned the award during the Yotes' 2019 national championship season. Cardoza is now a three-time AVCA All-American (2018, 2019, 2021).
