Box score

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -
No. 5 seed, Cal State LA, fell to No. 2 Western Washington, 25-23, 29-27, and 25-15 in the NCAA West Regional Championship.

The first two sets were up for grabs, and unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the Vikings captured both. Cal State LA grabbed the momentum in the middle of the set with a 6-0 run to go up 15-11.  A kill by Emily Elliott would make it 22-19, but then Western Washington made a 5-0 run of its own to jump in front 24-22 and earn the 25-23 win.

In set two, Cal State LA also had the opportunity when it got to game point first at 24-22. The Vikings answered again with another clutch run as their backs were against the wall, taking seven of the final 10 points for the set win. Early in the third set, WWU scored seven straight points to take the 8-3 lead and they would never give it up en route to the 25-15 set win and the sweep.

Chloe Roetcisoender had 13 kills and six blocks to power Western Washington. Olivia Fairchild added eight blocks of her own to help the Vikings own a 14-6 advantage at the net. Four different Vikings posted at least 11 points, and five had nine or more points. Malia Aleaga had 40 assists.

Emily Elliott paced Cal State LA with 15 kills. Karla Santos added a double-double with 13 kills and a match-best 17 digs, and Eliza Cannon posted 29 assists.
