CCAA top scorer Kyanna Davis, who led Stanislaus State to its fifth straight win, has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Nov. 22-28.
Davis averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in the Warriors’ two wins last week as Stanislaus State improved to 5-1 after extending its winning streak to five games.
The senior forward from San Jose also showcased her all-around game with five assists, five steals and three blocked shots.
Davis scored a career-high 27 points in the Warriors’ CCAA opening win over Chico State on Saturday, but it was her clutch defense that made the biggest difference. With a two-point lead, Davis lept and deflected an inbounds pass then collected the loose ball before drawing a foul. Davis nailed both free throws to give Stan State a 68-64 thrilling victory. She finished that game with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The night before Thanksgiving, Davis scored 15 points and grabbed nine boards with three assists and three steals to lift Stanislaus over Fresno Pacific.
Last week Davis became just the fifth Warrior to score 1,000 points with 500 rebounds in a career.
Davis, who has scored 20 points four times this season, currently leads the CCAA with 20.5 points per game and is third with 9.3 rebounds per contest.
