CSUSM forward Vasquez named Women's Basketball player of the Week

Cal State San Marcos sophomore Jordan Vasquez was prolific in the paint as she was named the CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of Nov. 15-21.

Vasquez averaged 17 points and 8.7 rebounds per game to lead the 19th-ranked Cougars to a 2-1 week with wins over Point Loma, Seattle Pacific and a narrow loss to Western Washington.

In CSUSM’s opener at Point Loma, Vasquez turned in her first double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s win last Tuesday. She was 7-for-8 from the field with five free throws for 19 points and recorded two assists. 

On home court during the CSUSM Hoops Classic, the 6-foot forward from Moreno Valley netted 17 points with eight rebounds to lead the Cougars to a 21-point win over Seattle Pacific. She also had two blocked shots, two steals and an assist against the Falcons. Saturday afternoon against WWU, Vasquez scored 15 points with eight rebounds plus an assist and a steal.

For the week, Vasquez shot 69 percent (18 for 26) and tallied 51 points with 26 rebounds (15 offensive) plus two blocks, three steals and four assists.

Cal State San Marcos begins CCAA play on Saturday when Cal State LA visits The Sports Center.
