Broncos upset the #2 seed to advance in Super Regional

Box score

Down goes the No. 2 seed! Cal Poly Pomona went down to Wichita Falls, Texas and came away with two wins including a 1-0 victory over the Super Region's No. 2 ranked team, and site host, Midwestern State. (Nov. 21)

The same formula played out in both contests for the Broncos as Eduardo Faria scored the game-winning goal and the defense posted a clean sheet.

Faria gave the seventh seeded Broncos the lead in the 24th minute when he headed in a long throw-in from Melvyn Cortez.

Jordan Aldama and the defense took over from there. The Mustangs took 16 shots in the game, but only two were on goal. Aldama denied Midwestern State's best goal scoring opportunity seven minutes into the game when he made a diving stop. The Mustangs had a few looks with the clock winding down but on each attempt the defense was disciplined and denied any good look.

Cal Poly Pomona is now 5-0 all-time in Wichita, Texas.

Broncos will advance to face the No. 6 seed, West Texas A&M, in the Super Region semifinal at University Stadium in Los Angeles. The match is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m.
