For the third straight week, a goalkeeper is being recognized as the CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. This week the award goes to Chico State’s Emma Hofmann, for the week of Oct. 25-31.
A true freshman from Folsom, Hofmann handled 20 saves, a number of them of the spectacular variety, to keep three opponents from scoring in helping Chico State to a 2-0-1 week. Chico State moved from seventh in the standings to now just two points out of first with the undefeated week.
Hofmann made seven saves in a 1-0 win against first-place Sonoma State as the Wildcats became the first team all season to blank the Seawolves. She then made seven more saves in a 2-0 victory at Cal State LA on Friday. In Sunday’s draw at Cal Poly Pomona, Hofmann turned away six shots on goal, including three jaw-dropping saves in overtime.
Chico State and Hofmann broke the Wildcats record for consecutive shutouts with their seventh straight. They were 4-0-3 during this streak.
Hofmann leads the CCAA with a .535 Goals Against Average and is tied for first in NCAA Division II with 10 shutouts this season. She is also third in the CCAA and 19th in Division II with a .877 saves percentage.
The Wildcats wrap up the regular season Thursday at home against Humboldt State as they play for a berth in the CCAA Tournament.
