Gallegos of Chico State named Player of the Week after impressive debut

Chico State guard Charity Gallegos earned this season’s first CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, for the week of Nov. 8-14, after leading the Wildcats to two wins.

Gallegos made quite a first impression as the true freshman averaged 16.5 points, five rebounds and seven assists per game in Chico State’s wins over Fresno Pacific and Dominican.

In Friday’s regular season opener against FPU, the standout from Folsom scored 18 points and dished out six assists in the Wildcats’ 66-57 win. On Saturday afternoon, Gallegos followed with a 15-points, 8-assist performance as Chico State edged Dominican, 79-77.

She tallied 14 assists, 10 rebounds, four steals and shot nearly 58 percent from the field in her Wildcat weekend debut.

Chico State travels to Oakland to face Holy Names Tuesday afternoon before playing in the CCAA/GNAC Challenge in Monmouth, Ore., this weekend.
