Cal Poly Pomona's Shackelford received Player of the Week Nod

Cal Poly Pomona posted two big victories at home to start the 2021-22 season behind a big weekend by Phoenix Shackelford, who has been named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for Nov. 8-14.

Shackelford had two 20-point games to average 22.5 points per contest in leading the Broncos to the opener win over No. 21 Seattle Pacific and a Saturday victory over Azusa Pacific.

The senior guard from Fairfield, who shot 50 percent from the field (17 of 34), also averaged 7.5 rebounds and five assists per game.

Against SPU, Shackelford scored 24 points with eight rebounds and four assists, in Friday’s win. Against APU on Saturday, he netted 21 points with seven boards and six assists to lead the Broncos.

Cal Poly Pomona, which was picked to finish third in the coaches preseason poll, hosts Westcliff on Wednesday before visiting Biola on Saturday for its final two non-conference games.
