Pair of second-half goals sends Sonoma to finals

Box score

POMONA, Calif.
- Sonoma State is back in the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament title match for the second consecutive season after earning a 2-0 win over No. 5 seed Cal State LA in the semifinals. (Nov. 12)

Olivia Aschbrenner's goal in the 65th minute broke a scoreless tie and proved to be the game-winner. Andrea Lozano sent Aschbrenner in a pass when the two were on a run up the field that was at her stomach. But instead of bringing the ball down as the defender expected, Aschbrenner used her knee. She poked the ball to an open area before beating the keeper with a low and hard shot to put the Seawolves up 1-0.

Lozano would add an insurance goal less than 10 minutes later off an assist by Alyssa Silva.

Sonoma State used a pair of goalkeepers, Phoebe Barnes and Emily Masursky, to post the shutout. Barnes made three saves, and Masursky added one. Olivia Spanish had one save for Cal State LA.

Sonoma State (14-4-0) will advance to the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament finals on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. They will face No. 3 seed Cal State East Bay. Both programs are looking for their first CCAA Tournament Championship.
