Sonoma State Phillips earns Men's Soccer Player of the Week award

Timmy Phillips led Sonoma State to a critical win on Sunday to earn the CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award, for the week of Oct. 25-31.

Sonoma State went 3-0-0 during the week, including a 3-0 win over Cal State East Bay on Sunday, to stay alive in the hunt for a tournament berth into the CCAA Tournament.

Phillips scored twice in Sunday’s match, including the game-winner early on in the 14th minute. The junior from San Diego added a score in the 55th minute for his first multi-goal match of his career.

He also contributed as a midfielder in Monday’s 1-0 win against Chico State and Friday’s 2-1 win over Stanislaus State. With the three-match winning streak, Sonoma State moves into sixth place in the standings with one match remaining.

The Seawolves travel to San Francisco State on Thursday in the regular season finale in hopes of qualifying for the CCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament.
